DMACC Offers Free Tuition For Workforce Training Academy

(Ankeny, IA) -- Des Moines Area Community College is recruiting students for it's Workforce Training Academy. The program offers tuition assistance and designates staff to help unemployed and underemployed central Iowans qualify for free, tuition, books, and supplies.

WTA certificate training is offered at DMACC campuses in Ames, Ankeny, Boone, Carroll, Des Moines, Newton, and Perry.

“Those who are considering these WTA programs will most likely have responsibilities outside of the classroom, such as family, financial obligations, etc. and are not able to commit to extended time in a classroom,” DMACC Workforce Training Academy Coordinator Kay Maher said. “Short term training provides the skills necessary to start a career in an industry where there are opportunities to grow professionally and to become financially self-sufficient. In addition to the FREE training, we also provide job readiness and job search supports. Our goal is to help our community become self-sufficient and education is key!”

Most of of the programs can be completed within a semester or less.

Maher says short term training might include a welding certificate, administrative support professionals, a CNA certification, construction, network cable, as well as commercial driver's license (CDL). She says the program also helps with job readiness and the job search process. She says in some cases it can also lead to new career goals, such as moving from a nursing aide to becoming an RN.
