Couple Files Discrimination Complaint Against Ames Restaurant

(Ames, IA) -- An interracial couple has filed a discrimination complaint with the Iowa Civil Rights Commission against Flip 'N Jacks in Ames.

Dezmen and Lacey Southward said when they went to dinner with their children, Dezmen was told by the owner there would be 100 people ahead of him on the waitlist.

When he saw only two names ahead of his, Lacey went in to request a table and was given a shorter waiting time by the owner.

The couple said the owner was surprised when they then walked into the restaurant together.

The owner says the incident was a misunderstanding.
