(Iowa City, IA) -- Iowa football finishes the season 23rd overall in the last Coaches Poll ranking of the year.

The Hawkeyes started the season sitting 18th in the first ranking of the year. Iowa would rise as high as 2nd overall after a 6-0 start to the season. Iowa's hot start included wins over then 17th ranked Indiana, 10th ranked Iowa State, and 4th ranked Penn State; however, each of those teams would finish the season unranked.

Defensive Coordinator Phil Parker and his defense stands out as a key factor to Iowa's success. Iowa finishes the season 3rd nationally in takeaways, forcing 30 turnovers.

On the other side of the line of scrimmage, Offensive Coordinator Brian Ferentz and his offense ranks 99th in total points at season's end, scoring 23.4 points per game.

The Hawkeyes' 6-0 start to the season led to a 4-4 finish in Iowa's final 8 games of the season. Iowa scored 31.5 ppg in the first 6 games of the season, but only scored 17.4 ppg in the final 8.

Closing the book on Iowa's 2021-2022 football campaign, the Hawkeyes finish the season 10-4, with a close 20-17 loss to Kentucky in the Citrus Bowl.

The Iowa faithful now wait for September 3rd, when the 2022-2023 season kicks off against the South Dakota State Jackrabbits.
