DES MOINES, Iowa -- Nearly $37 million in childcare grants are being used to create more than 5,000 new childcare slots across Iowa.
Governor Kim Reynolds' office says the money will fund 108 projects in 72 Iowa communities.
They say the federal and state money will be matched by another nearly $10 million private investment generated through community-based partnerships.
The Governor's Office says Iowa leads the nation in the percentage of households where both parents work outside the home.
Reynolds previewed the grant awards during Tuesday's Condition of the State speech.
