(Omaha, NE) -- Nebraska Medicine activates its Crisis Standards of Care plan, meaning some services at Nebraska Medicine hospitals will be limited.

Nebraska Medicine says it implemented its crisis plan this morning because it doesn’t have enough resources to care for the community. Nebraska Medicine says it will now have the flexibility to redeploy staff, limit non-urgent services, and modify how resources are distributed. This is the first time its crisis plan has ever been activated.

Nebraska Med says while their Crisis Standards of Care plan is activated, patients may experience some changes from previous appointments or hospital stays. Here are some examples of how patients could be impacted:

  • Appointments may be rescheduled
  • Fewer appointments available
  • Surgeries may be postponed
  • Clinical trials may be paused
  • Medical students and other staff may be used as support personnel
  • Patient transfers may be denied
  • Non-patient areas like classrooms or conference rooms may be used for patient care
