(Omaha, NE) -- The 5G cell towers are not affecting Eppley Airfield.
“Some of the airports as I indicated have buffer zones around them where those providers have either turned off those antennas around the airport or reduced their power output or moved the antennas in a different direction so it doesn’t impact the operations,” said Tim Schmitt, Omaha Airport Authority CEO.
Schmitt tells 6 News there are currently no 5G towers near the airport, but they are monitoring developments between telecommunication companies and the airline industry.
Recent claims from airlines, stating 5G signals interfere with safety equipment, are raising questions across the country about how their local airport will be impacted.
Schmitt says there could be a minor impact on flights coming into Eppley, but outgoing flights should be without issue from 5G signals for now.
