Several studies appear to be showing that the use of CBD stops the Coronavirus when tried in a test tube, but will that transfer to human patients?
"Our findings do not say this will work in patients. Our findings make a strong case for a clinical trial," said Marsha Rosner of the University of Chicago who led a team that found CBD appeared to help curb SARS-CoV-2 in infected cells in laboratory experiments.
What she and her colleagues discovered was that when using very small doses of highly purified CBD, it did NOT stop the virus from infecting cells. What it did do however, was stop it from reproducing. Not only did this happen in a test tube, but they witnessed the same effect in mice according to a report in Science Advances.
Rosner wants to make sure people don't rush down to the CBD store and self medicate. "We would love to be able to say specifically that a certain dose of cannabinoids is helpful," she said, "but at this point, vaccine-induced antibodies and antibody drugs are much more effective at blocking infection."
