(Undated) -- Iowa schools could soon face a new staffing challenge. Once Iowa’s coronavirus emergency expires next week paraeducators, or teaching assistants, won’t be allowed to be substitute teachers anymore. During the coronavirus emergency teaching assistants have been allowed to serve as substitutes because of a teacher shortage. Paraeducators will still be allowed to substitute if they’re full-time workers and have an assigned classroom. Iowa’s coronavirus emergency expires next Wednesday.
