The City of Lincoln's Fairness Ordinance is not on the books as scheduled.
The "Nebraska Family Alliance" submits more than 18-thousand petition signatures, which is four times the number needed, four percent of Lincoln voters in the last gubernatorial election, to rescind the measure or put the issue to a vote of the people.
The Fairness Ordinance, which was approved by the City Council last month, would extend employment and workplace protections to include gender identity and sexual orientation, and it would have added active military and veterans as a protected class.
