Two people were shot inside the Whiskey River bar on Ingersoll Avenue in Des Moines on Saturday night. I drive by that bar every night on my way home. I took my wife and two of the kids there in a previous incarnation of the restaurant for a birthday dinner once.

In Cedar Rapids, Police say two shootings last week 90 minutes apart are not related and they don't even talk about the one the night before.

My wife and I avoid downtown Des Moines on Saturday nights now because it seems like every weekend there are shootings. I know they are usually much later than when we go out, but when there are so many alternatives, why even risk it?

"Our cops are working very hard to do what they can to keep it safe," said Des Moines police Sergeant Paul Parizek. "The problem is that we've got to get everybody on the same page, trying to figure out what we're going to do to affect the choices that folks are making before they get to the point where the choice is to pull the trigger."

Are you changing your behaviour? Do you avoid going downtown in Iowa cities as weekend shootings increase?
