(Omaha, NE) -- 17 snowplows receive their names from elementary school students.
The Nebraska Department of Transportation selected the names from over 300 submissions from across the state.
According to the NDOT release, the names include the Blizzard of Oz, Darth Blader, Plower Power, Snowbuster, Snow Big Red, Ice Breaker 2000, and more.
"We were excited to give Nebraska’s students the chance to get involved in naming our plows. It’s also a great way to recognize our hardworking snowplow drivers and maintenance workers, who are often the unsung heroes of keeping our roads safe during and after winter weather," says Shannon Ankeny, the NDOT Director of Communications of Public Policy.
Once the plows are branded with the new names, the Blizzard of Oz and the other plows can be tracked here.
NDOT says another snowplow naming contest will be on the way later this year.
