Now that Nebraska First District Representative Jeff Fortenberry's resignation is in effect as of Thursday night, we await the announcement from the Governor's Office on the date of a special election to fill the rest of Fortenberry's term.
The Republican stepped down after being found guilty of lying to the F-B-I, and there is a 90-day vacancy period for an election to be put together to replace him.
Nebraska Democratic and Republican Party leaders will select the nominees for the special election.
Fortenberry was convicted last month in Federal Court in Los Angeles on three felony charges of lying to the FBI about a 2016 foreign campaign contribution.
