WASHTINGTON D.C. -- Iowa Republican Senator Charles Grassley says he's voting against the nomination Ketanji Brown Jackson to the U.S. Supreme Court as the Senate Judiciary Committee takes it up Monday.
Grassley, who's the ranking Republican on the committee, says he can’t support her nomination due to what he calls fundamentally different views on the role judges should play in the U-S system of government.
In a statement, Grassley says:
"Throughout this process, I’ve focused on thoroughly and fairly assessing Judge Jackson’s record. I think I’ve done that. We need confidence that judges will interpret the laws as they are written. Judge Jackson’s re-interpretation of laws I’ve helped write does not give me that confidence."
The Judiciary Committee will vote later Monday to refer Jackson to the full Senate for confirmation.
