(Des Moines, Iowa) -- The Des Moines School Board selects a new interim superintendent.
The board voted unanimously Tuesday night to approve Associate Superintendent Matt Smith for the role. Smith will be the interim superintendent starting July 1st and serve through the 2022-2023 school year, taking over for the resigning Dr. Tom Ahart. Ahart announced his departure from the role in Feburary. The Des Moines Public School District says it will conduct a nationwide search for a permanent replacement.
