(Ames, Iowa) -- Students at Iowa State University are learning the science of chocolate.

John Kaiser teaches the course in the chemical engineering department. Kaiser started teaching in the ISU Chemical Engineering department after retiring from the Mars Candy Company. His course teaches students the chocolate making process from start to finish, including opportunities to sample their work along the way.

Kaiser says 30 to 40 percent Chemical Engineering students go on to work in the food industry.
