(Des Moines, IA) -- The City of Des Moines is entering into the next phase of a $3.5 million parking meter replacement project. Crews installed 400 parking payment kiosks months ago and today (Thursday) will start the process of replacing 3,500 meters. City Engineer Steve Naber says crews will start on 5th & 6th Avenues from Watson Powell Junior Way to Center Street, then work their way west of the Iowa Events Center.

If you park where there is a new stall marker, you'll now be able to use the pay stations or the Park D-S-M mobile app. Other parking spaces will still use the existing system until they are transitioned out of service.

The new kiosks take contactless payments, cash or credit cards. There's also a feature allowing parkers to pay remotely should they need more time in the space.
