Residents and City of Omaha traffic engineers discuss a study of making Farnam Street between Dodge/Happy Hollow and 46th Street two way all the time.
For decades, the two lanes of Farnam along that stretch in Dundee change to one way eastbound for the weekday morning commute, and then one way westbound in the late afternoon for the drive home.
A number of residents have been pushing for years to make Farnam in that neighborhood always two way.
“I mean, this street is like no other,” Peter Manhart told 6 News.
“It’s very dangerous to drive; people forget that it’s one way, and they go the wrong way, and there’s a lot of near head-on collisions,” says Jim McGee, a 40-year resident of the neighborhood.
“What was presented tonight is yes, it’s feasible, but , there are some changes that have to take place in order for that to work, primarily at the two signalized intersections at 50th and 52nd street,” City of Omaha Traffic Engineer Todd Pfitzer told 6 News.
He says the changes at those intersections could be adding traffic signals with left-turn lanes, adding traffic signals with left and right turn lanes, or roundabouts.
The City continues to seek feedback from residents.
