(Des Moines, Iowa) -- Des Moines Police say one person is under arrest in connection to a fatal hit-and-run crash near East High School Thursday afternoon.
38 year-old Terra Jean Flipping of Des Moines is in custody and charged with leaving the scene of an accident resulting in injury or death. Police say 14 year-old Ema Cardenas was hit by a vehicle around 3:45pm Thursday and was taken to the hospital in critical condition. She died of her injuries Thursday night. On Friday morning, the Des Moines Police Department announced that it had found and impounded the car involved in the crash. On Friday afternoon, DMPD announced Flipping's arrest.
Ema Cardenas was a freshman at East High School.
