(Cedar Rapids, IA) -- The Cedar Rapids Fire Department says a man is now in Mercy Hospital after being rescued from the Cedar River downtown.

Emergency crews responded to the area of the 12th Avenue Bridge to rescue the man just before eight last night. The man was reportedly moving very quickly downstream with the current until a boat crew was able to take him from the water after launching from Valor Way.

The man was taken by an ambulance for medical evaluation.
