(Des Moines, IA) — Iowa is reportedly among the states hardest hit by the baby formula shortage. Local store shelves have only a few cans of formula available, some are totally bare. The shortage started when Abbott Nutrition recalled formula and stopped production three months ago. It is the largest producer of baby formula in the nation. One report puts Iowa, South Dakota, and Missouri as the states most adversely impacted by the shortage. The Food and Drug Administration is asking Congress to require manufacturers to notify the FDA of interruptions.
