(Waukee, Iowa) -- The Waukee Police Department says it collected 89lbs of expired or unwanted prescription drugs during the 22nd Annual Drug Take Back Day.

The U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency held National Drug Take Back Day on April 30th, and the Waukee Police Department says on its Facebook page that between National Drug Take Back day and its collection site at the Police Department Lobby, residents were able to drop off the 89lbs of prescription drugs. The Waukee Police Department says the drugs will be destroyed, and the annual Drug Take Back Day serves to educate the public about potential prescription drug abuse.
