Des Moines Area School Lunch Prices to Rise

(Des Moines, IA) -- Some Public school students will need extra change next year. Rising prices because of inflation are expected to hit Des Moines area school lunch rooms for the 2022-2023 school year. West Des Moines and Johnston Community School districts have already decided to raise their prices. WHO-13 reports West Des Moines Community Schools says it will raise prices by 25-cents. Johnston Community schools has not given a number but says it will be lower than West Des Moines. School leaders say they're seeing prices for food items like milk, bread, meat and other items rise significantly. Students that qualify for reduced or free meals will not be affected by the raised prices.
