(Des Moines, IA) -- Construction on the new Des Moines Buccaneers hockey arena is beginning soon at Merle Hay Mall. The $58-millon project in the old Younkers building on the west end of the mall is expected to be completed by summer of 2023. Owner Michael Devlin says crews will actually start ripping everything out and begin building after Memorial Day. There was a ground-breaking ceremony Wednesday. The arena will seat 3,500 fans once completed.
