(Des Moines, IA) -- The Des Moines city council has voted to renew the city's contract with MidAmerican Energy. The deal allows MidAmerican to continue providing natural gas and electricity to homes and businesses in Des Moines for the next 13 years. The council also voted Monday evening to work on a plan with MidAmerican to reduce the city's carbon footprint. City Manager Scott Sanders says details of the plan will be out by the end of the year.
