(Des Moines, IA) -- The 2022 Iowa Legislative session has adjourned. Iowa lawmakers have passed a 3.9-percent flat income tax that removes taxes on retirement income. The state cut the number of weeks Iowans can be on unemployment benefits by 10 weeks. Students with female on their birth certificate will be the only athletes participating in girls and women's sports in Iowa. Also, the bottle bill sees its first overhaul since 1978. Two notable bills the state lawmakers did not pass are Governor Kim Reynolds' school vouchers bill and the transparency in schools/parents bill of rights. The session ended early Wednesday morning after being in overtime for five weeks.
