Planned Parenthood Planning Union Vote

(Des Moines, IA) -- Planned Parenthood employees in Iowa could soon be forming a union. An election petition has been filed by organizers with the National Labor Relations Board. The union would be made of employees of the Planned Parenthood North Central States organization which includes Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, and the Dakotas. A news conference by some Des Moines employees was held announcing the future plans for a union yesterday. The group hopes to have a date for union vote set for sometime this summer. An employee said at the conference the possible overturning of Roe v. Wade is a factor in the decision to vote on a union. Other reasons for the union said in the meeting were employees being told to work through their lunch hour and not providing enough resources for continuing professional development. Another claim was workers at different Planned Parenthood clinics under the North Central States umbrella being paid different wages.
