(Waukee, Iowa) -- The Waukee Police Department is creating special teams to respond to mental health related calls.
The Crisis Intervention Teams pilot program will begin on July 1st. Waukee PD will designate a certified officer and one crisis intervention specialist to respond to mental health calls.
The CIT program will be implemented throughout the Des Moines metro, including in Urbandale, Clive, West Des Moines, Norwalk, Windsor Heights, and the Dallas County Sheriff's Office.
