(West Des Moines, IA) -- A 14-year-old Des Moines boy has been charged in connection with shots fired at a West Des Moines carnival. Police were called to the carnival June 15th, in the Valley West Mall parking lot because of two large fights after 9 p.m. and shots fired. Police arrested a juvenile male involved in the fight right away, but could not find the shooter. Today, police announced a 14-year-old has been arrested and charged with Intimidation with a Dangerous Weapon and Assault Causing Bodily Injury. He's been taken to a juvenile detention facility.

No additional information about the juvenile’s identity will be provided due to his age.

During the investigation, westbound traffic on Interstate 235 was closed briefly as officers searched for suspects on foot and using a K9 team. During the search, a handgun believed to have been used in the shooting was recovered. No shooting victims were identified; however, a juvenile male was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries from the second fight.

West Des Moines Police Detectives and crime scene investigators matched spent shell casings from the scene with the recovered handgun located shortly after the incident. Today, June 22nd, the West Des Moines Police Department identified the suspect and executed a search warrant and found additional evidence, leading to the arrest of the juvenile.
