Mike Flood Wins Nebraska Electoral Round One

Mike Flood wins the special election in Nebraska's First Congressional District.

The Republican defeats Democratic candidate Patty Pansing Brooks in Tuesday's vote 53 to 47 per cent; about 60-thousand votes for Flood to about 52-thousand for Pansing Brooks;

Flood will serve the remainder of former Nebraska Congressman Jeff Fortenberry's term, but he will face Pansing Brooks again in the November general election for the right to serve a full term in Congress.

Against the back drop of the special election, a federal judge in Los Angeles sentences Fortenberry to probation for lying to the FBI about an illegal foreign campaign contribution at a California fundraiser in 2016, leading to his resignation from Congress.

Fortenberry gets two years probation, must serve 320 hours of community service, and pay a 25-thousand-dollar fine.
