OPPD To Use Helicopter In Line Project

The Omaha Public Power District will take to the skies as crews string transmission wire for the Sarpy Southwest Transmission Project.

The utility says a helicopter may be seen hovering near power structures off and on between Thursday and the end of the month.

The lines will connect to O-P-P-D’s power grid serving Turtle Creek Station at 168th and Fairview Road, one of two new natural gas balancing stations.

Construction began in May;

The district says they will be used to balance energy load as needed, as part of the "Power with Purpose" initiative to add 600 megawatts of utility scale solar in addition to 600 megawatts of natural gas generation.
