Iowa DOT Grants $1.5 Million to Four Public Transit Projects

(Ames, IA) -- The Iowa Department of Transportation announces Ames, Sioux City, Mason City, and Mount Pleasant will receive $1.5 million in grants to improve their public transit systems. The funds come through the state's Public Transit Infrastructure Grant Program.

"The Public Transit Infrastructure Grant is an impactful source of funding for public transit systems. This program enables transit systems to construct and maintain facilities that are critical to the operation of their system and maintenance of the vehicles," says Rebecca Law, Transit Programs Administrator at Iowa Department of Transportation.

At their July 12th meeting in Ames, the Iowa Transportation Commission approved funds for the following projects:

  • Ames: Rehabilitate shop area in the maintenance facility (CyRide) $581,566
  • Mount Pleasant: Renovation of existing facility – Phase I (Southeast Iowa Regional Planning Commission) $480,000
  • Sioux City: New automated bus wash (Siouxland Regional Transit System) $238,434
  • Mason City: Replacement of insulation and vapor barrier for transit facility storage and maintenance area (North Iowa Area Council of Governments) $200,000
