(Undated) -- New plans are coming for electric vehicles on state highways in Iowa.

The Iowa Department of Transportation is preparing to reveal a $51 million dollar plan to expand the state’s electric vehicle charging infrastructure.

Charging stations are typically found at shopping centers and parking garages, but the new bill will help them hit the highways.

New federal rules are calling for charging stations every 50 miles at least one mile of an interstate highway.

New plans for Iowa could be approved as soon as September.
