Eastern Iowa Crisis Centers Prepare for 988 Lifeline Launch

(Cedar Rapids, IA) -- Crisis centers is Eastern Iowa are making final preparations as a new lifeline is set to go live across the state and nationally this weekend.

988, the new suicide prevention lifeline opens up Saturday.

Cedar Rapids’ Foundation 2 and Iowa City's CommUnity Crisis Services are taking on volunteers and making IT improvements to prepare to handle more calls.

The 988 number gives people the option to reach out via call, text, or chat.

The line will be available 24/7, 365 days a year.
