Omaha Fire Cause Determined

Omaha Fire Investigators say a fire at a vacant house southwest of downtown was an accident: careless disposal of smoking materials.

Arriving firefighters late Tuesday night found smoke coming from the rear of the place near 26th Street and Woolworth Avenue and quickly put out a fire they discovered in the basement of the two story house.

The fire department says no injuries were reported and it appeared homeless people may have been taking shelter in the house.
