(Des Moines, IA) -- Police are releasing the name of a man killed in a crash last night on Des Moines southeast side. Police 39-year-old Jason Smith of Knoxville was critically injured when his motorcycle collided with a car at SE 14th and Watrous Avenue at 7:34 p.m.
Des Moines Fire Department medics initiated life-saving measures and transported the patient to a local hospital where he died.
The preliminary investigation, including witness statements and examination of evidence indicates Smith was southbound on SE 14th Street, approaching Watrous Avenue. The car involved was attempting a turn from northbound SE 14th Street to westbound Watrous Avenue. The two collided within the intersection. The Des Moines Police Department Traffic Unit is investigating this crash.
It's the city's 11th traffic fatality this year.
