(Des Moines, IA) -- A strong high pressure system is building, which is expected to bring another heatwave to Iowa in early August. State Climatologist Justin Glison says the peak of the heatwave is expected August 4th or 5th. He says daytime highs could be near 100, the overnight temperatures are likely to fall only into the 70s or 80s.

Glison says usually after a heatwave, temperatures will return to averages after that. He says that will likely mean temperatures in the mid-80s.

He says the timing could be good for the Iowa State Fair, which starts August 11th.
