(Iowa City, IA) -- Kinnick Stadium will host a football game this month, but the Iowa Hawkeyes won't be one of the teams playing.
Iowa City High Football announced Monday the Little Hawks will be playing the Liberty Lightning in the Battle for Zeus under the Kinnick lights.
On Friday, August 26th, the "Clash at Kinnick" will mark the fifth meeting between City High and Liberty. The game will mark a tiebreaker in the series, as the overall record remains tied at 2-2. City High won last year's meeting 41-0.
The "Clash at Kinnick" marks the third time Iowa high schools have played at Kinnick Stadium. The 3A and 4A State Championship Games were played there in 1972. According to the City High Football press release, Cedar Rapids Jefferson defeated West Des Moines Dowling 6-0 and Cedar Rapids Regis fell to Harlan 14-12. City High Football, in the announcement, stated the following:
"50 years later, the Little Hawks are deeply grateful for the opportunity to be a little part of Kinnick Stadium’s rich history. We will swarm, we will wave, and we will be back in black!"
