(Illinois) -- Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker is declaring monkeypox a public health emergency.
On Monday, Pritzker issued a disaster declaration after the state recorded 520 confirmed or possible cases of the monkeypox virus. Under the disaster declaration, the state is able to expand resources designated to combat the spread of the virus and streamline coordination among state agencies.
Illinois has the third highest number of monkeypox cases in the country.
