(Des Moines, IA) -- The Impact Community Action Partnership has collected 50-donated fans so far this summer, but organizers say they could use many more. Terri Mork Speirs says new fans and air conditioners can be dropped off at any Des Moines Fire Station this month, and likely into September as well. The fans are being distributed to individuals and families in need. She says the fans can be critically important for low income residents, and notes there are numerous populations including the elderly who are especially vulnerable to the excessive heat that the state is experiencing this week. Speirs also says families in need may also want to look into payment programs through Des Moines WaterWorks and the Low Income Heating Assistance Program.

Impact Community Partnership covers Polk, Warren, Boone, Marion, and Jasper counties.
