(Des Moines, IA) -- Nearly all of Iowa is under a heat advisory until 8 p.m. tonight (Tuesday) due to forecasted temperatures in the 90s and triple digit heat index values ranging from 98-to 105 degrees.
The National Weather Service says heat and humidity will be the main weather story today. Muggy conditions will peak in the afternoon, with the most oppressive conditions in the west, central, and southern portions of Iowa.
Forecasters say humid conditions will continue tonight with overnight lows in the middle 70s to low 80s. A cold front, however, is expected to pass thru the region Wednesday. The front could increase the chance for showers and storms, providing some relief from the heat and humidity by Thursday.
