(Des Moines, IA) -- Four Iowa Red Cross volunteers have been sent to eastern Kentucky to help flood victims. Emily Holley of the Central Iowa Chapter of the Red Cross says as the disaster evolves, more will likely be sent to help with a variety of tasks from food and shelter to assessing mental health needs. She says a typical deployment is about 10-days to two-weeks.

Holley says they're always recruiting volunteers to help with disaster recovery, both out of state and in Iowa. She says those who wish to help in other ways can donate on line at www.redcross.org.

The death toll as of today (August 3, 2002) is 37. Officials in Kentucky expect that number to rise, noting there are least three individuals who are still missing.
