(Des Moines, IA) -- Ten beaches at Iowa State Parks are under swimming advisories this week due to high levels of E-COLI. Swimmers are urged to wash off after getting out of the water and to avoid ingesting lake water.

The beaches include:

Backbone, Beeds Lake, Big Creek, Brushy Creek, Emerson Bay, George Wyth, Lake Darling, Lake of Three Fires, Lower Pine, and Nine Eagles Beach

An advisory remains in place at Lake of Three Fires beach in southwest Iowa's Taylor County, due to an amoeba (Naegleria fowleri) detected in the water. Ingesting it thru the nose can lead to a deadly brain-eating illness. A Missouri resident became infected with the illness this summer and died, marking Iowa's first-ever fatality due to primary amebic meningoencephalitis (PAM).
