(Lincoln, NE) -- A special session to change Nebraska's abortion laws will not be called.
On Monday, Speaker of the Legislature Mike Hilgers submitted a letter to Governor Pete Ricketts showing that 30 state senators support changing Nebraska’s law to place restrictions on abortion at 12 weeks. In response, Ricketts announced that there will not be a special session due to the lack of the needed 33 votes to overcome a filibuster and pass legislation.
Current law bans abortions in the state after 20 weeks.
