August Immunization Time

August is back to school time in Nebraska and, related in many ways to that, it is also "National Immunization Month."

Public health experts say August is a good time to make sure adults are up to date on vaccines and children are prepared for a safe return to school.

The Douglas County Health Department recommends adults consider a Covid booster and get the TDAP vaccine, which protects from tetanus.

An annual flu shot is another recommendation and, depending on travel plans, your job, and lifestyle considerations, other vaccines may be recommended by your doctor.

They say shingles and pneumonia vaccines also should be considered.

The Douglas County Health Department hosts a pediatric immunization clinic on Tuesday mornings for qualifying individuals at the health department offices near 41st and Pacific Streets in Omaha.
