(Davenport, IA) -- The Davenport City Council votes unanimously to approve a railroad merger that could affect tracks in the Quad Cities.

The $10 million dollar merger between Canadian Pacific and Kansas City Southern would nearly triple the amount of rail traffic coming through the Quad Cities area. Other area communities, including Muscatine and Bettendorf, have already approved the merger. The deal will still have to be approved by federal regulators.

If approved, the merger is expected to begin in January of next year and be completed in 2027.
