(Linn County, IA) -- An eight-year-old eastern Iowa boy is recovering after being bitten multiple times by two dogs. The Linn County Sheriff's Office says the boy suffered severe bite wounds to his head, face, back, legs, and arms, and is currently hospitalized at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids. Investigators say the boy was bitten while at a friend's house in rural Springville Friday.
The Sheriff's Office says both dogs were identified to be 3-year-old pitbull/mastiff mixed breed male canines.
Deputies contacted the Cedar Valley Humane Society and Linn County Public Health, and it was determined the dogs are vicious animals under Linn County Ordinance, section 6-57. The owners were served a notice, pursuant to Linn County Ordinance, section 6-70. The owners voluntarily surrendered the dogs, which are currently in quarantine. The dogs will be humanely euthanized unless the owners file an appeal within two days.
