(Spirit Lake, IA) -- A northwestern Iowa school district is allowing some staff members to carry firearms on campus.

The Spirit Lake Community School Board approved a resolution that allows up to ten staff members to carry a gun on school grounds. Iowa Code does allow staff to carry on campus for the protection of students and staff. The resolution says those carrying on school grounds will not be teachers.

Superintendent Dr. David Smith will select which staff members are allowed to carry a firearm.
