(Undated) -- This week's drought monitor shows a bit of improvement thanks to rain last week. Most of Iowa is still abnormally dry or in some form of drought. Nearly all of central and southern Iowa counties are in moderate or severe drought. Several northwest Iowa counties continue to have the worst conditions. Nearly all of Plymouth County continues to be in extreme drought. There was no change in areas in severe or extreme drought this week, compared to the previous week. The U.S. Drought Monitor map, however, shows modest improvement in areas that have been abnormally dry or in moderate drought this summer. The National Weather Service says the next chance for scattered showers is Saturday. Rainfall is expected to be variable.
