Friday marks one year since Omaha Marine was killed in Afghanistan

(Sarpy County, NE) -- Friday marks one year since the death of an Omaha area Marine killed in Afghanistan.

Marine Corporal Daegan Page was among 13 U.S. service members killed in the August 26th, 2021 attack on the Kabul, Afghanistan airport.

A portion of Gertrude Street from 157th and Emiline Streets to South 162nd Avenue and Harrison Streets in Sarpy County was renamed in Page's honor earlier this year. In addition to Cpl. Page’s family ties to Sarpy County, his final resting place is at the Omaha National Cemetery in Sarpy County. Page was born in Omaha and graduated from Millard South High school. He was an avid hockey player and was a member of the state championship Westside Warrior team. He joined the Marines in 2017 and attended boot camp at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego in 2018. During his service, he deployed several times, serving in Japan, South Korea, Australia, Jordan and Afghanistan.
