(Polk County, IA) -- Polk County Conservation is hosting a free monarch butterfly tagging event Saturday, September 3rd. Spokesperson Jessica Lown says it starts at 1 p.m. at the Jester Park Nature Center. Visitors will be able to hunt for monarchs in prairie areas and when one is found, it can be safely tagged with a small sticker on its wing. Scientists use the numbered tag to help follow the monarch's migration to Mexico for the winter.
